Yoshiaki Harada, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, has carried out a long and exhaustive investigation into the issue of sovereignty over the Senkaku Islands and wants to share his conclusions with the international community.
Angry at the way in which Chinese vessels have repeatedly intruded into Japanese territorial waters, he is equally disappointed that Japan has failed to use force to remove the intruders – as any "normal" country would have done in a similar situation, he insists.
Harada also contends that China agreed in the past that the islands were Japanese and that Beijing only claimed sovereignty over the territory in 1971, after natural resources were found nearby. He will show maps produced by the Chinese government in the past that clearly show Japanese names used to describe the islands to prove his point.
Yoshiaki Harada is a senior member of the House of Representatives from the Fukuoka No. 5 constituency who has spent many years investigating the issue of sovereignty over the Senkaku Islands and is a recognized authority on the subject.
