Society has always used information. But as the amount of digital data grows, we can do new things and unleash new forms of economic value.
Data has become an asset, the "oil" of the information society. From business to politics, from healthcare to education, the ability to collect more information and learn from it allows organizations to improve their performance or create new products and services. Yet the same technique may enable police to identify people who may commit a crime before the person has acted. How should society respond? Will big data become Big Brother?
Kenneth Cukier is the Data Editor of The Economist in London, and formerly its Tokyo correspondent from 2007-12. He is the co-author of the book "Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think" Published last year, it was a New York Times Bestseller and has been translated into 20 languages, including in Japanese. He is a member of the World Economic Forum's advisory council on data-driven development.
Join us for a special talk by one of the leading thinkers of the big data age, and learn how big data will revolutionize business and society. And how we must regulate it -or become its victims.
