Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum, has played a key role in facilitating global, regional and industry agendas, and is coming to the club to provide his remarks, and discuss recent trends in the global governance and the evolving role of the influential forum. The forum is particularly well known around in the world for their annual meeting held in a ski-resort Davos in Switzerland every January, while they have series of activities and multistakeholder gatherings throughout the year.
As the long-time leader of the institution, Schwab says the WEF supports facilitate Japan's ongoing transformational process including "Abenomics" and has a vested interest in the nation's domestic and foreign affairs, such as issues revolving around an aging society, gender parity and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but also including Japan's delicate relations with China and South Korea.
Schwab, a native of Germany, received a doctoral degree in engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and another doctoral degree in economics from the University of Fribourg. He also received a Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
The Japanese government announced on Nov. 3 that Schwab was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, First Class, for his contributions to promoting ties with Japan and enhancing the international community
