The Dhillon-Marty Foundation, which promotes social activism through art, design and architecture, will be hosting 20 international architects, designers and students in the coming week on a visit to various parts in Japan, including the Ise Shrine. Their activities will include designing mobile homes in rural areas, redesigning a school in quake-hit Miyagi prefecture and, in their words, "building awareness among 2020 Olympics tourists."
The group will increase to 45 members during the latter part of their visit and will conclude with a symposium on October 29 at Tokyo University. The project includes prominent architects such as Kengo Kuma, who is recognized around the world for his works which preserve Japanese building traditions, and has the support of the Ministry of Agriculture.
